Mr Ken Duncan - CEO

Ken has managed the Swiss-South African Co-operation Initiative since its inception in March 2001. For five years prior to that, he was a private consultant in the fields of education and training. From 1989 to 1996 he was Assistant National Director of the Molteno Project, a leading educational NGO operating throughout Southern Africa. He has also run a group-wide adult education programme for a large mining corporation and taught for twelve years in Johannesburg and Soweto. Ken did a B.A. degree and post-graduate Higher Diploma in Education at the University of the Witwatersrand, followed later by an M.A. degree at Rhodes University, specialising in the evaluation of educational projects. He also did post-graduate studies in assessment at the College of St Mark & St John in Plymouth, U.K.

Ms. Jane Maluleka - Administrative Manager

Jane Maluleka joined SSACI in April 2013 as an Administrative Manager. She studied B.Com Marketing and has several diplomas and certificates in Advance Office Management, Strategic Planning and Change Management among others.  She is currently studying towards her Post Graduate Management & Development Programme (MDP) with the University of Pretoria.  Jane has worked for various companies and institutions including Wits Business Schools as a Course Coordinator.  She also worked as a Marketing Manager for Protech Training and has held various Executive Office Management positions during the course of her career.

Ms Shanita Roopnarain - Senior Project Manager

Shanita Roopnarain is a senior project manager and joined SSACI in 2009. Her primary focus is development of FET Colleges and has worked specifically on Workplace Based Experience (WBE) for FET College students and lecturers.  Previously she worked at an FET College for 12 years as lecturer, then senior lecturer and was involved in several education and training projects as partnerships manager.

Ms Nevina Smith - Project Manager

Nevina Smith has experience in the fields of training, project management and marketing, particularly in the education sector for the past 15 years. She has worked in the SADC region, primarily in the area of project finance. She also has experience in strategic planning, materials and project design, as well as expertise in customer relationship management and managing complex projects. In addition, she has experience in quality assurance and management and evaluation of projects. Marketing experience includes events management, brand management and publications. Having worked in other NGOs primarily in education, Nevina joined SSACI in 2011.


Ms. Vanessa Taylor - Project Manager

Vanessa Taylor has extensive experience in the field of education, training and development in which she has worked for 30 years. During this time she has worked in schooling, adult basic education and training (ABET), further education and training (FET), higher education and skills development. Her work has included teaching and training, curriculum and materials development, research and evaluation and project management. Since 1999, the focus of her work has been on the development of the FET college sector.

Vanessa has Bachelor of Arts and Higher Diploma in Education from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and a Master in Philosophy: Educational Administration, Planning and Social Policy (with distinction) from the University of Cape Town.


Ms. Claudia Rudolph - Project Manager

Claudia Rudolph is a project manager and joined SSACI in 2013. Her primary focus at SSACI is the Dual System Apprenticeship Pilot (DSAP) Project. Originally from Germany, she has extensive experience in the implementation of the ‘dual system’, TVET systems design in general and training related M&E measures. She moved to South Africa in 2007, completed her MComm (HRM) at the University in Stellenbosch in 2008 and has worked as a freelancer in the TVET and Labour Market field ever since. Her experience includes a wide range of TVET related projects in South Africa, other African countries and Europe.


Ms. Melanie Rajpaul - Project Manager

Melanie’s passion and experience lies in the area of youth development. Her experience includes facilitation with both young people and practitioners, writing materials, project research and evaluation and advocacy. She completed a BSc Occupational Therapy at the University of the Western Cape and a BEd (post graduate) at the University of the Witwatersrand.


Darryn von Maltitz - Project Manager

Darryn von Maltitz joined SSACI as a project manager in July 2014. Darryn’s role at SSACI is primarily to manage the Swiss Chamber College Improvement Project. The main objective of this project is to develop a model for college-industry partnerships that can help raise the standard of public TVET colleges.
Darryn has worked in the education and training sector for 15 years and has experience in the areas of project management, stakeholder management and monitoring and evaluation.

Bina Akoobhai - R & D Manager

Bina Akoobhai, is a Research and Development Manager at SSACI. She has a MSc in Science Education. She has extensive research knowledge in the field of teacher professionalism; school and post-school dynamics, using qualitative methods. Her training is in teacher and curriculum development within an academic environment. She has undertaken various multi-year school based projects. Within the TVET sector, she has worked extensively with DHET as part of the workstream team to support colleges with strategic and operational planning as well as monitoring and evaluation. She has worked extensively with the Eastern Cape and Limpopo colleges as a Specialist Manager for EMIS/ monitoring and evaluation; and Institutional planning components.  She has presented at various conferences locally and abroad. She is a member of the Golden Key International Honours Society.

SSACI operates with a small core team of development professionals who draw upon consultants as necessary.
