At Ekurhuleni West Technical and Vocational Education and Training College in South Africa, African Union Development Agency-NEPAD officially inaugurated the E-Sondo simulator—an essential milestone under Project Power Up, a Funding Window III initiative of the Skills Initiative for Africa, designed to equip youth with the skills needed for the electric vehicle sector.
The simulator provides a safe, hands-on training environment for students to learn electric and hybrid vehicle diagnostics, assembly, and troubleshooting—bridging the gap between theory and real-world application.
The inauguration was attended by African Union Development Agency-NEPAD‘s SIFA Country Coordinator, Dr. Thabang Matobako, reinforcing the agency’s commitment to advancing innovation in TVET.
“The launch of the E-Sondo simulator marks a meaningful step in preparing young people and women for opportunities in the New Electric Vehicle sector. It reflects the power of TVET-led, homegrown solutions in unlocking employment and entrepreneurship pathways,” said Dr. Matobako.
Led by the SWISS SOUTH AFRICAN COOPERATION INITIATIVE NPC (SSACI) in partnership with Guru Group of Learning, the project combines digital learning, employability training, and workplace exposure to prepare students for careers in the New Energy Vehicle industry.
With a focus on gender inclusion and support for vulnerable youth, the project contributes to South Africa’s Just Energy Transition by developing inclusive, future-oriented green skills.
SIFA FC is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union through KfW, as part of the SIFA initiative by the African Union, executed by the African Union Development Agency – NEPAD.
